Jess Buyers has taught high school ELA for the past seven-and-a-half years in the public school system. She taught her first two years in Alpine School District, then the last six years in the Salt Lake City School District. Ms. Buyers currently teaches freshman English at Judge Memorial.

Ms. Buyers grew up moving around the United States and lived in at least 15 different houses and eight different states all before she was in 8th grade including: Georgia, Indiana, Washington, California, Texas, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, and Ohio. When she finally moved to Washington state in 8th grade she had significant gaps in her education despite her desire to learn. Without help at home, Ms. Buyers found comfort in school, books, and the handful of teachers that cared about her. Ms. Buyers has always known that she wanted to be a teacher and hopes her classroom will also be a safe place for students to learn.

After graduating high school in Washington, Ms. Buyers went to Rexburg, Idaho to attend BYU-I and earned her degree in English Education in 2014 and immediately started teaching. During her time teaching she has earned her ESL endorsement, a level 2 teaching license, the University of Utah Reading Clinic Reading and Writing about Tier 1 texts certificates. Ms. Buyers is currently working on her master's degree in Literacy Education online from Arizona State University.

Ms. Buyers is married and has two girls (ages 1 and 4) who take up most of her time. When she does find a spare moment for herself you can find her knitting or reading a good book.
